Seeds of Freedom Ammunition is a small, Veteran-owned, federally licensed manufacturer in Georgia, run by Stephen Huss and his partner Erik DeStefano. We load competition ammunition — not mass-market volume — for shooters who care what their charge weight was on round 400 as much as round 1.
Where this started
I grew up at the reloading bench with my dad and grandfather — I was ten when my father handed me a copy of The ABCs of Reloading. Somewhere along the way loading my own ammunition stopped being about saving money and started being about control — knowing exactly what was in every round I put on the timer. I’ve shot USPSA, PCSL, Steel Challenge, Hit Factor, IDPA, 2-Gun, and Bowling Pin long enough to know that ammunition you can’t trust is a penalty waiting to happen.
Veteran-owned, and a partnership
Seeds of Freedom Ammunition is proudly veteran-owned. Co-owner Erik DeStefano served 24 years in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard, and the standard he lives by — “do it right the first time” — carries into everything we do.
Erik grew up hunting on his family’s farm, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors and firearms — and for the responsibility that comes with both. He brings that same respect, discipline, and strong work ethic to our company every day.
Together, we’ve chosen to keep our production runs smaller so we can stay focused on building ammunition for shooters who expect every round to count. It’s a simple philosophy that’s been part of Seeds of Freedom Ammunition from the very beginning.
From single-stage to automated
I started the way most reloaders do, on a single-stage press, one pull at a time. From there to a Dillon progressive, and eventually to automated presses when demand outgrew my hands. Today we load on six Mark 7 Revolution presses and two Dillon Super 1050s — the same machines that let us hold a charge weight tight across thousands of rounds instead of hundreds.
How we load, and why it’s safe
We build every caliber on a repeatable process with two safeguards at every stage — one you can see and one the machine enforces. Powder charges are verified before a bullet ever seats. Finished rounds are case-gauged before they go in the box. It’s deliberately not fast, and it’s deliberately not high-volume. We’re a quality-first shop that would rather load one caliber correctly than ten calibers quickly.
Who this is for
If you shoot matches, this is built for you. We load the weights competitors actually run — 9mm from 100 to 147 grain, Hi-Tek-coated options, .45 ACP 230, .223/5.56, and .300 Blackout in both supersonic and subsonic — plus ladder test packs and custom load development for the shooter chasing a specific node. We don’t put out a round we wouldn’t run in our own gun at our own match. That’s the whole standard.
